All morals are an opinion. Duh. The whole argument is about opinion, that's why it's so controversial. We can't have a factual this is right this is wrong resolution to this. I'm tired of this argument, everyone is.
If I ever bother releasing a map, I'll do everything I can to make it a complete jumbled mess (from within the editor) that no one would bother fucking with it, but that's really all I can do.
And thats why I win, because while you fools keep "arguing" and repeating the same things I say this:
And this topic is a waste of time because these arguments have been gone over 100000000 times before. No one is saying anything new. And the fact doesn't change that I CAN STILL DO WHATEVER I WANT LULZ. OSMAP EXISTS.
And I think the links to previous Protection/Unprotection topics I have posted are more than enough discussion for this topic.
None.
And I still wonder why you continue to rub it in is his face.

I think whenever someone puts their time and effort in to creating something, for the general public, their wishes in regards to their creation should be respected. I think if you want to modify their creation you shouldn't be allowed to without their consent. And I think it's completely wrong to disregard what they've said can and cannot be done to their map and edit it anyway. After all, they could have chosen not to make it at all. Then you wouldn't have anything to edit. Besides, why do you even need to edit someone else's creation. If you think you could make it better, then make it yourself.
And how do you know what thier precise wishes are? Point me to where every map maker has stated what can or cannot be done to thier map(s). I posted my point of view in regards to what you are trying to overgeneralize, and you seem to have completely ignored it.
Making something over just makes it redundant and over used. And you are also forgetting those who have edited maps and made them better. I've actually seen that happen, and the original author thanked them.
A lot of people take mapping way to seriously... Mapping itself is arbitrary and useless.

Neither poll choice covers my stance: you can do whatever you want, just not to maps that I created. (which, universalized, means don't go against the map creator's wishes)
Or rather, my stance is already in
the rules.

OSMAP is the most genius thing ever. Not only does it let me open rigged maps and un-rigg them, but it also creates funny arguments in which nerds battle off their opinions spinning off proper gramatical form and sentence structures to appear superior to the other side, as if a map that took a month is worth anything (by the way, a map that takes a month, isn't necessarily good because it took a month...)

I don't. But by protecting their map, it's likely that they didn't want other people messing with it.Not necessarily, that seems to general. It may be what
you want when
you protect maps...

I agree they should be unprotected just because I think that map makers are very slim in number. I am a map maker that isnt great, and i mean not great at all. But to learn something i actully need to look at it or I can't understand it. I think thats how somone who wants to make maps should learn to make them.
P.S. If you'd like to email me sentest@live.com

That seems like a somewhat skewed point of view... For example, I learned around half of what I learned about mapping through tinkering with StarEdit, like I do with all editors, map and otherwise: I see a button, and ask myself "What does this button do?", and then poke that motherfucker for all it's worth. If nothing explodes, I'm making progress.
The rest (and mostly advanced stuff) I learned through help from other modders (<3 impeached) and references.
As for the whole protection/unprotection thing: In a perfect world, mappers and modders and shit would all live in harmony, collaborating and exchanging and evolving ideas to create the absolutely most epic SC experiences evar, but that's never going to happen because humans as a whole specialize in fucking things up.
I'm sorta-kinda neutral on the topic, I just picked unprotected at random so I could view the topic.

Im really in an inbetween sort of opinion.
First i believe an author has a right to say 'This is my work, i dont want anyone touching it, i say its done, and this is how i want it.', however i think its selfish to deny others the right to learn from their work. I also like protection because it compresses the map, making it faster to download. And finally, i like keeping the riftraff, or riggers and other shitty would-be-editers out of maps so that they dont ruin them. (As in the case of RE:RC with MasterJohnny, Shimby, and Linkslasher.)
I like open source because it gives others the ability to learn from maps, allows the adding of new features and such in the event that the author stops updating the map.
As with my work, my RPs are protected (partly for reasons listed and partly because Laura doesnt distribute her console publicly.), however most of my other maps are open source.

Everyone notice how Moose's stance is very similar to mine. So screw all of you who were against me, I got the admin on my side!
Your stance is that I can unprotect whatever I want and you can't do anything. His is that you can unprotect whatever you want as long as it doesn't fuck with his day. The only similarity is the selfishness.Him saying you can do whatever you want and me saying I can do whatever i want, same shit. Yes it's selfish too

His stance doesn't advocate it.I don't see how his and my stance advocate or don't advocate anything. It's seems to be just your interpretation.

Can we stop bitching about semantics and get back to bitching about map

So, you don't advocate OSMap?I don't care. In fact, since I agree with Moose I'll just say what he said:
you can do whatever you want, just not to maps that I created.
The original statement on my stance that I made really just goes hand in hand with what Moose said. What I said applies to me specifically and what Moose said is my view on everyone else.
On their own each stance is somewhat incomplete or in other words only deals with a specific perspective.
